  • Wednesday evening run led by Mike E
Wednesday was Midsummer's Day, so what better way to celebrate than with a ride from Ware. Twenty turned up, four going off to discover the meaning of life, while sixteen ducked, bobbed and wove their way around the lanes to Westmill near Buntingford and back. One puncture over the 25 miles.

Final evening ride before the summer solstice - next week the glass-half-empty brigade will be full of "woe, woe and thrice woe, the nights are drawing in". Not that there were extra photons of light around this week, as the sky remained distinctly grey and rain threatened, but never arrived. Fourteen, later thirteeen, headed to Ardeley via Bennington, then back via Whitehill. On reaching the old A10, the tight formation broke as individuals sped home for repast and bed. 27 miles.

Thirteen riders morphed into a single ride, a category 5/6 ride to Mocca Cafe at Bishops Stortford. A mechanical stalled progress on the outward leg. Food intake was more modest than usual at the stopping point, as some were mindful of the sausages and burgers available at Allenbury's later in the day. A couple chose their own route home. The remainder wheeled into Allenbury's in good time for the meat fest. 39 miles.

With Phoebus staying in our sky for that bit longer at the moment, the led group extended its range, taking in Much Hadham, Standon and Haultwick. Just before the crepuscular shadow emerged, it took in Sacombe Hill for a final bit of fun. 20 riders and 28 miles. Four also rode unled.

  • Mid week evening run led by Mike E
Bored by the coverage of the Sepp Blatter mularkey, or more likely, buoyed by a bright warm evening, over twenty riders assembled at Allenbury's. Fifteen joined the led ride to Allen's Green and back. Not even a minor incident to report over the 25 miles.

The  midweek rides of 2015 began on a bright bracing spring evening. 4 or 5 went off without supervision. The other 11 progressed niftily to Allen's Green and back without incident. 25 miles.

12 of us headed out to Hitchin in nice sunny weather via Knebworth, Codicote, Whitwell and Preston. Just as the leader was thinking it was going fairly well, came the shout of ‘xxx canicle’, which turns out to be a broken chain. This was soon fixed and we headed to Du Tea, Hitchin, where we were served with a nice selection of cakes, coffee, and proper tea (loose leaf, not teabags, and out of a pot).
