11 of us set of from ware to the airfield at stapleford abbotts in glorious sunshine. Our route took us through the Lavers to Morton and down through Toot hill and Stanford rivers. While enjoying our refreshments we were able to watch the aircraft taxiing right out side the cafe and a helicopter land and take off. A shorter route back with only one minor indecent. Phil the power managing to get stung on the ear and receiving emergency treatment by our 'qualified' paramedic, captain Bob.  I knew that first aid course would come in handy.

5 riders including 2 Guests rode to Hare Street via Hunsdon, Bishops Stortford, Berden and Brent Pelham. Sat in the garden for a pleasant break in the sunshine before returning to Ware by way of Westmill, Great Munden, Standon and Dowsetts Lane, deciding to avoid the intended route through Barwick Ford because of potential traffic chaos due to a music festival. 42 miles at a brisk pace in lovely weather.

  • Dear Sirs,
Only just made the start of the Wednesday ride, having successfully explained the disappearance of my five millionaire ex-wives to the police. My butler is expected in court next week to be charged with the multiple murders. Phew! Then I held up you guys with a two and a half stop at the garage in Ware to recharge my electric bike - sorry about that. I have only just bought it from the Sky team, but had not realised how depleted the battery was after the Tour de France.

Yet again the heavens opened up over Essex. I was met by Lee Anderson and Jonathan Dove (who had set off even earlier and had already done 30ish miles in the dry!). I gave them a choice of either doing a club run or just going home and keeping dry.

  • Dear Sirs,
I took part in my second ride with your midweek group. Fourteen riders looped from Ware to Westmill and back over 25 miles with one puncture. It was an amazing coincidence that the route went past all the shallow graves of my millionaire ex-wives.
    Yours faithfully,
    Elijah C Gruntfuttock (address withheld).

Dear Sirs, I took part in my first ride with your midweek group this week. Fifteen riders looped from Ware to Furneux Pelham and back over 25 miles and without incident. I was particularly grateful to the riders for waiting for me at various points - when I got back my roadkill bag was full to the brim. Yours faithfully, Elijah C Gruntfuttock (address witheld).

  • Cat 5 run led by Cathy P
7 riders set out from Ware to Buntingford expecting a morning of rain, but luckily the rain more or less held off.

  • Wednesday evening run led by Mike E
The usual crew gathered, although there were more this week on the unled ride. The excitable, yet dim-witted Paola Fisch would have forecasted well, for it was indeed "scorchio, scorchio, scorchio....". However, there were no melting roads, just one puncture to deal with. Fifteen on the led ride picked their way to Allen's Green and back at a pace above that advertised, though none were left behind.

Where do I begin to tell the story?….

  • Wednesday evening run led by Mike E
Wednesday was Midsummer's Day, so what better way to celebrate than with a ride from Ware. Twenty turned up, four going off to discover the meaning of life, while sixteen ducked, bobbed and wove their way around the lanes to Westmill near Buntingford and back. One puncture over the 25 miles.

  • Wednesday evening run led by Mike E
Final evening ride before the summer solstice - next week the glass-half-empty brigade will be full of "woe, woe and thrice woe, the nights are drawing in". Not that there were extra photons of light around this week, as the sky remained distinctly grey and rain threatened, but never arrived. Fourteen, later thirteeen, headed to Ardeley via Bennington, then back via Whitehill. On reaching the old A10, the tight formation broke as individuals sped home for repast and bed. 27 miles.

  • Cat 5/6 run led by Mike E
Thirteen riders morphed into a single ride, a category 5/6 ride to Mocca Cafe at Bishops Stortford. A mechanical stalled progress on the outward leg. Food intake was more modest than usual at the stopping point, as some were mindful of the sausages and burgers available at Allenbury's later in the day. A couple chose their own route home. The remainder wheeled into Allenbury's in good time for the meat fest. 39 miles.

With Phoebus staying in our sky for that bit longer at the moment, the led group extended its range, taking in Much Hadham, Standon and Haultwick. Just before the crepuscular shadow emerged, it took in Sacombe Hill for a final bit of fun. 20 riders and 28 miles. Four also rode unled.

  • Mid week evening run led by Mike E
Bored by the coverage of the Sepp Blatter mularkey, or more likely, buoyed by a bright warm evening, over twenty riders assembled at Allenbury's. Fifteen joined the led ride to Allen's Green and back. Not even a minor incident to report over the 25 miles.
