Category 4 ride led by Pete Kelleway
Four of us turned up for the category 4 ride today - three committee members and Denis. Poor Denis. Having got the statutory items out the way (club insurance, cheques for the Audax etc) we settled down, and got wet for the first time.
Just as the conversation was turning to how Liverpool had helped West Ham yesterday (sorry Ian), Graham declared he had a puncture. Considerately he at least waited until it had stopped raining. As in all committees there proceeded to be a lot of chat , suggestions and not much action. At least Graham learned how to use the tyre glider, so all was good. The rest of the journey out consisted of the usual Back lanes and School lanes but there was a Half Handkerchief Lane thrown in. Oh and a nasty / lovely hill up to Preston.
Food was ordered at the Dreambean Cafe. Ian commented that his large latte wasn’t as big as he thought it would be. Think he was envious of my large cappuccino!
Fed and watered, the journey back was quicker. Could it have been because it was all downhill with the wind behind us (as I promise the groups I ride with so many times) or was it because I was trying to get Denis’s power figure up! We left Ian at the cemetery (he was alive still at that stage) and finished our route back to Ware.
Got wet a few times but dried out. Enjoyed the ride, route, and the cafe. All in all a good day.
Category 6 ride led by Tony Dos Santos
Cammas Hall was the destination today. The weatherman advised it was going to rain. All the riders were dressed for rain.
It was nice to finally meet Ryan Page - welcome to the club.
Off we went at 9 on the dot. We rode up through Cold Christmas without rain. Good banter as normal.
As we rode along, we saw a man trying to smash a telegraph pole with a hammer. We told him he wouldn’t be able to knock it down!
We got to Cammas Hall at 10 to 11 and it was empty.
Nothing eventful happened on the way back, apart from a smattering of rain.
God this is the most boring report I have ever written. Sorry :-(.
No mechanicals, no punctures, no nuffink. As normal, a fun ride and thanks all for coming.
Obviously, written on the throne.
Love and kisses.
