Category 6 ride led by Mike East
A group of ten took a route to Bishops Stortford without any circuitous embellishment. Progress was marred temporarily by two riders suffering punctures simultaneously. The battle of tyre removing equipment ensued. Result? Glider 1, Levers 0. Our intended stop, Mocha Cafe, was closed, so we visited the Bridge Cafe, two doors away. Pretty much like for like on service, food and price. On the way back the group fractured so that only four finished at Allenbury’s. The rest, I am assured, did make it home safely. A warm welcome to Ryan, on his first ride with our club.
Category 4 ride led by Denis Bassom
With the weather looking better than the last few weekends, but still a little chilly, the three of us set off to Stansted Mountfitchet and Cafe Yeomans. Saw plenty of mountain bikes and even, a few miles in, a herd of lesser spotted Wheelers on the opposite side of the road participating in some kind of group ritual (hope all was OK). With the weather slowly warming we actually managed to get to Cafe Yeomans with no diversions, quite possibly a first for me!
The food was excellent, but service a bit slow. They lost out on the sale of piece of cake after inexplicably not bringing it out to me but at least I remembered to pay this time! One thing to highlight was I had emailed them to reserve a table but this went unanswered. I suspect they need phoning directly, or maybe they just ignored me. As an added bonus we were in the back garden with some friendly dogs to fuss.
So with our hunger sated we set off back to Ware. A very pleasant ride through small back roads with some actual sunshine! Again we managed to avoid any unintentional diversions. With the exception of one car driver believing that being 80 years old and regularly driving the same road bring a valid excuse to try and mow down Leigh (yes, that IS pretty much what she said!) it all went smoothly. We got back to Ware well before 2 pm, looking forward to many more summery rides to come.
