Vi Harridge
Vi Harridge
21 May 16
We have recently heard of the passing of Vi Harridge , the widow of Bill, one of our stalwart veteran riders in the 1970s and mother of former member Peter. Some of us still meet up with Peter on Association time trials and I have already sent him and his brother and sister a condolences card on behalf of the club. Our more senior members will recall that Bill was killed whilst cycling to work and the family donated to the club a large trophy in his memory that we use for the Veterans BAR (last won by Peter Walton in 2010). Unfortunately I shall be away at the time of Vi’s funeral in Luton, but I hope to attend the memorial service a week later in Welwyn Garden City. Details of the funeral, memorial service and donations in Vi’s memory are given below if anyone else wishes to attend. The funeral will be at Luton Crematorium on Friday 3 June, at 12 noon.
The family would like any of her cycling friends to join them afterwards at The Barrels pub, which is across the road from the crematorium, behind the retirement apartments, on Cannon Lane . Postcode of crematorium is LU2 8DD, for those using satnav, and pub is LU2 8BJ.
The family insist they do “not wish everyone to be dressed in dark clothes as this is a 'celebration of mum's life' - and for the ladies, I think it would be nice if they could incorporate a bit of green into what they wear, as mum loved it so so much”. There will be a smaller ceremony at the Hatfield Hyde cemetery in WGC where Bill Harridge is buried 9th June at 12.30 pm .
