Category 6 ride led by Tony Dos Santos
Hot hot hot! I don’t know if you know whether this ride had a theme, but it was hot.
I met with Leigh at a roundabout by half eight, where he had a puncture. All mended in seconds and we rode to Ware and got there For quarter to. Alex was surprised - “you’re normally here earlier having a smoke”!
Six riders in total were raring to go and off we went at nine.
I can’t really say much about the outbound journey, until we got to Much Hadham, where Daniel Horn was waiting for us on his E-bike. He’d obviously seen the weather report and thought “sod that”, I’m getting some assistance! Or was it, “I’ve paid for this, I’m going to use it”. The latter me thinks :-).
We got to Hatfield Forest at 10.45. There were no crowds. At the table Alex and David were cracking the worst jokes I’ve ever heard. They were so bad, it was silence after every joke. OK, OK, they were funny. Merrily we ate the feast before us. Then Leigh said those immortal words: “who wants an ice cream”, I jumped at this, as it was so hot, but no one else wanted one! It was lovely!
We left the forest after 35 minutes. The heat was searing and the tarmac was starting to melt (well, it was hot and not melting, but I needed my readers to know how hot it was and to see if you’re reading this absolute load of ******* (word redacted (big word eh) by TDS))
The ride home was uneventful, only one mechanical with Leigh’s chain slipping off.
Leigh and I said our goodbyes at Stanstead Abbotts and the ride was over. Seven riders had made it through the “Great Heatwave of 2023”.
We all wish Carolyn (we’ve all missed you) the best for her operation on Tuesday; hopefully you will be out on a ride when your meniscus is healed.
Written on the throne. Over and out.
