Category 6 ride led by Tony Dos Santos
Today wasn’t a cold day - it was around eight degrees. As I was riding down, and got to Lower Road, I was confronted with some mad bloke waving his hands at me on a bike. I got closer and closer and realised it was Pete “Darth Vader” Kelleway. We both slowed, but it was too late to have a chat as he was like 1,000 metres (might be a small exaggeration) away from me. A quick wave and we parted, Pete was riding down to Hoddesden to go out with the Cat 4.
I got to Ware in good time. Waiting there, more and more people were turning up. Captain Bob arrived with Danny H and Franco. But, poor old Bob had a bad back and went home. I hope you feel better, Bob. Then, I rubbed my eyes, as Mark Sims was there; this is the third time he’s turned up in January - amazing. Carolyn fetches up, but obviously no Darth Vader with her. More came piling in and we were up to eleven riders, plus meeting one en route. It was decided we were going to ride to Thremhall in the “opposite direction”. I knew it was going to be hilly, but it just seemed there was a hill at every turn. The route planned was thirty nine miles with the cafe at twenty one miles. We got to Widford and the Garmin pulled a loopy and told us to go left. Poor old Claire was also going loopy and didn’t understand. We love you Claire. But at this point she had sent two others left. Claire chased them down and back they came. At Much Hadham, Mark said his goodbyes but we then met up with Daniel Horn. Claire had a puncture and fixed it within minutes with a tubeless widget thingy (tech term). Off we went. No further issue, we got to Thremhall at 11:15. Fed and watered, we enjoyed the usual fast service at Thremhall. Off we went in the opposite direction and into a horrible head wind. We battled on, like true soldiers. Not a single mechanical on the way back and, all in all, a nice ride. Sorry the last bit was a bit short, but I can’t remember much else. Thanks all for coming.
Obviously written on the throne.
Love and kisses xxx
