Down to Bethersden for the San Fairy Ann CC 300 starting at 02:00. Soon we were "flying" southeast towards Sandgate where we turned and "flew" west along the coast. There was no wind and it wasn't cold until we crossed the marshes at about 04:00 at which point it did get a tad chilly. Got back to the HQ at 102kms before 06:00 - a remarkably quick time that included a roadside refreshment stop soon after Dymchurch. I'd averaged 17mph.
A quick change of clothing and soon I was off. The route crossed and recrossed itself and often I'd come to a junction with a feeling of deja-vu. All the controls were peopled by friendly helpers who knew that all we wanted was some quick food\drink and to get on ASAP.
All the time I kept thinking that the hills would soon be upon us. There's always hills. Not this time. Had they'd used an iron, I don't think it would have made it any flatter. As the day progressed it got windier from the southwest. By afternoon this was quite strong and certainly made a big difference to the speeds. Heading in an easterly direction to Hythe was a lot easier than the return west to Bethersden. Got back about 17:20 with an overall average of 14.5mph. PW.
