Family Fun Day and BBQ
Family Fun Day and BBQ
15 Jun 15
In the morning the weather was unpromising - a fine, misty drizzle. However, by 1:00pm it was dry and warm. Certainly it was warm around the BBQ where Mark, Lee and Brian had the charcoal ablaze and the first burgers were on the go. During the morning they had set out the giant games and arranged the set-up of the bouncy castle - so all was ready for the arrival of members and guests after the morning's club runs.
About 100 Wheelers and guests attended and enjoyed burgers and sausages - including vegetarian options - and salad. Children played and adults chatted. The lovely setting beside the River Lee and the presence of the Allenburys bar helped things along. It was a wonderful, friendly occasion enjoyed by all who attended.
Four lucky guests won Herts Year of Cycling water bottles (complete with flashing lights). Mark Tappenden was presented with a Year of Cycling jersey in recognition of his organising of the event. Jerseys also went to Mark's daughter and (a very small one) to Eliza Thorpe.
We have Mark to thank for this event. He had the idea, planned all the details, was up at the crack of dawn to buy the food and was there until long after the guests had gone clearing up and tidying away. He was ably assisted by Lee Anderson and Brian Cutmore who were with him throughout the day. Thanks to all!
