With Brian away, Tony made a solo effort.
The scratch race was dominated by the home team which made up half the field. Three riders escaped and looked very likely to stay away to the finish. Tony hit the front at a lap and half to go then started to ride harder. He gapped the bunch with one rider coming across with him. Heading down the finish straight he hoped to reel in the escapees but left it too late and got pipped for 4th and a league point by Dave Le Grys! Still. If you are going to be pipped then loosing out to the 18 times world masters sprint champion is nothing to be ashamed of!
The Odds/Evens pursuit was chaotic with the Odds(Tony) loosing ground from the start and a few weaker riders not contributing enough to keep them on terms. Most sat up as they knew they had no chance.
The Devil or Elimination was next up. Tony rode a good tactical race staying near the front until the bell. With another rider in front of him he started sprinting after a lone escapee and caught him on the last bend. He tried to come around to go for the win but didn't have the legs and crossed the line 2nd - his first points in this event.
Last up was the 10 miler with the A group. Tony bagged £5 in a sprint prime then hung on till 13 laps to go. The pace was very quick as his 5 mile split was 10:15. His eventual time was 21:00 equating to a 29 mph average - pretty quick!
