Family Fun Day and BBQ
Family Fun Day and BBQ
02 Jul 16
This was a long weekend for me as I had to get all the food on Saturday and be up early Sunday to start the preparation. Fortunately I had help from Brian Cutmore and Lee Anderson with food preparation and getting everything ready.
I was worried about the weather as there had been a lot of rain on Saturday but, thankfully, the weather was good; calm and warm - unlike the previous day, perfect BBQ weather!
Numbers were down just a little from last year but we still had around 80 members turn up with their families. I even managed to get Darren Webb to come!
I think everyone who came had a good time. We had a good raffle with lots of prizes generously donated by members - especially Brian. I also managed to get two bike shops - Lea Valley Cycles and Stort Valley Cycles - to donate bike services. There was also a £20 gift voucher from Lakeside shopping centre. I managed to raise £154 for Sense which I was very pleased with.
Sam Lipscombe made good use of the bouncy castle I hired for the children by doing back-flips on it (IT WAS MEANT TO BE FOR THE CHILDREN SAM!)
Speaking to Allenburys staff after everyone had gone they said the have never been so busy not only with us but they also had a double christening. This got a bit interesting when they thought the BBQ was for them but they were firmly told it was not!
I finally went home at just after 9 pm after the bouncy castle had been collected. It had been a very long, tiring day for me but very enjoyable and rewarding seeing the club all together.
I hope to do it all again next year!
There are so many people I want to thank for their help along the way:
- Valdis for contacting Stevenage CTC for the use of their gazebo;
- Helen and Peter for the loan of their gazebos;
- All the people who donated gifts for the raffle (I know who you all are);
- Allenburys for the use of their venue;
- Lee and Brian for all their help setting up and cooking;
- Lea Valley and Stort Valley cycles for their donations;
- ... and a special thanks to the committee for agreeing to fund the event.
Sorry if I have missed anyone!
