Category 6 ride led by Danny Hood
I was not expecting that many today because of holidays and the TT. I was therefore surprised as the numbers amassing at the start grew and grew. By the time we'd reached the end of Ware High Street we were numbering fifteen.
I had booked for twelve, so the café would surely be able to cope with a few more. Luckily they could. Four tables of Wheelers fed and watered in quite a reasonable time. Unfortunately the toilet queue was of equal time, and, by the time every one had spent their pennies, it was getting dark - not really!
Two come and try riders had joined us today, Marisa and Anton. Both managed with the blistering cat six pace and tight formation of our peloton easily, and it will be nice to see them return for another ride. It was also nice to see the return of another of our members, Danny Mason, after a long lay off, especially as the last time he joined us we ended up losing him out in the wilds of Essex. The good weather made for a decent average speed of about 13.5 mph, and in the end we did about 37 miles.
As someone said "with these numbers it's a bit like herding cats". But fifteen went out and fifteen came back. Even I was surprised given some previous experiences of losing people.
