Cat 6 run led by Bob B
Eleven assorted Wheelers left Allenburys headed for The March Hare at Hare Street.
Confused by the varying weather predictions, riders’ garb ranged from summer to
winter! As it turned out, there was not so much as a drop of rain.
Out via Much Hadham, Little Hadham, Albury, Furneux Pelham, Little Hormead and Great
Hormead the group arrived without mishap and at the pre-booked time at the ill named
March Hare. It used to be called the Tortoise and we stopped going there some years
ago because it lived up to its name with really slow service. The change of name has
done nothing to improve things, so apologies to my fellow Cat 6ers for taking you
there! And extra apologies to Bruno for leaving him behind, trying to pay!
In view of the hour plus that we spent there, we decided on plan B for the return
journey – straight back to Ware via the old A10. Needless to say the group
fragmented, and I have no idea if those who opted for a burn up got home safely.
The ride leader himself suffered the ignominy of having a fixing bolt come out of
his right hand cleat, such that he couldn’t free his foot from the pedal. This
demanded considerable concentration so as not to forget which foot was permanently
shackled. On arrival back at Ware, the team mechanics were able to fix the problem
after Capt Bob had removed firstly his shoe and then the right hand pedal!
