Category 3 ride led by Tony Howard
Eight riders set off from Ware, seven riding normal bikes and one on an “Oddbike”, heading to Riverside Barns at Ickleton. Four wheels once again proved to be move vulnerable than two, and a slow puncture needed occasional air to keep the vehicle heading in the right direction! The route started towards Hunsdon, Much Hadham, Clavering and onto the cafe by the pond or Riverside Barns, with a hill or two to keep people awake! Now to insure they stayed awake we returned via Elmdon and Great Chishill, and yes it was a great hill, well I thought so anyway! And then onwards towards Barkway, Hare Street, Puckeridge and Ware. 30 miles out pretty much into the wind and 25 back with some assistance! 55 miles and nearly 3000 ft. With an average of just under 15 mph. Great company and great food and service at the cafe.
Category 5 ride led by John Farnham
A grey overcast and chilly day saw five Wheelers set out for Mill End Plants at Rushden via Wareside, Barwick, Dane End, Great Munden, Ardeley, Cromer and Cumberlow Green. Although the café is now very popular with cyclists it was today only partially filled by a large group of North Roaders and a handful of 'civilians', so the service was fairly swift. In recent times our return leg from Rushden has often been in varying degrees of rain but fortunately it remained dry for our route through Sandon, Buntingford, Cherry Green, Old Hall Green, Barwick back to Ware. 45 miles. No punctures or tumbles and only one saddle re-adjustment required.
Category 6 ride led by Danny Hood
It was brass monkey weather. But that didn't put off the nine hardy souls who gathered at base camp Allenbury's for today’s jaunt to Stapleford Airfield. Hills, hills, hills. All we needed was Benny and Harry for a full house. The cafe supplied the usual high calory high fat food needed for the return leg. Apart from one member getting caught at the Roydon level crossing the return was uneventful and of a decent pace.
Hard work, but good fun and good company.
