Category 6 ride led by Tony Dos Santos
Well, this was the first “post Covid” ride. Four members decided to dip their toes in the water and ride out. I say dip their toes in the water, as it was raining when we arrived, I received a text from Daniel Horn who was going to bail out, but after my comment “you only get wet once” he turned up at Hertford all raring to go. There was me, hanging from the night before as the mighty Arsenal crushed city in the semi finals.
We rode off, knowing that food was only eighteen miles away. It was nice to see Leigh Pegg come out to moan about the hills; not that I wasn’t! Kate D’Arcy was her usual strong self, merrily chatting with Daniel as Leigh and myself were absolutely dying going up Brickenden Lane. We got to the top of the “hill” as Kate and Daniel advised us with their flash Garmin 1030’s (dead jealous) that the “hill” we went up was only about a 4% gradient. We went through Brookmans Park with not a care in the world and not even a sniff of a mechanical or puncture.
We turned up at Shenley Café to great service once again and Daniel had a full English, I’ll give him his dues, he did say he couldn’t eat the toast before he tucked into his eight hash browns, two tins of baked beans, fake sausages etc etc (the list was so long I had to stop). Myself and Leigh, being honed athletes, only had grilled tomatoes on toast and scrambled egg on toast. Kate was being a little flash and had eggs Benedict. Yeah, I know it’s a little boring, but I have to make the report look good!
So we left the Café and made our way back to Hertford. No incidents at all, apart from one lovely passenger in a car giving me the bird for no reason.
Thanks for a lovely ride folks.
